DDP shipping from China to Spain in Q4 2026: sea, air and rail bands to Valencia and Barcelona, the duty and 21% IVA maths, and who can reclaim the import VAT.
DDP shipping from China to Spain puts supplier pickup, export clearance, freight, Spanish customs clearance, duty and 21% IVA, and final delivery into a single figure. In Q4 2026 that figure starts around $3.70–$7.70 per kg by air, $150–$260 per CBM by sea LCL and $1,350 for a 20ft container to Valencia — and none of those bands includes the tax lines that decide what the shipment really costs.
Spain clears every commercial import as an EU entry: an EORI number, a TARIC classification, duty on the CIF value and 21% import IVA. The bands below use the same data as our Shipping from China to Spain page and are dated Q4 2026, followed by the door-to-door clock, two landing accounts and the Spanish rules that catch first-time importers.
Quick Answer: DDP Shipping from China to Spain (Q4 2026)
Q4 2026 working bands for general commercial cargo. The freight column is freight only — duty, IVA, clearance and final delivery are added at quote stage.
| DDP Service | Freight Band (Q4 2026) | Door to Door | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| DDP Express | Courier rates by zone and weight band | 4–8 days | Samples and spares up to about 30 kg |
| DDP Air | $3.70–$7.70/kg to Madrid (MAD) or Barcelona (BCN) | 6–10 days | Electronics, launch stock, deadline cargo |
| DDP Rail | Per CBM or per container — above sea, below air | 22–30 days | 1–10 CBM, seasonal restock |
| DDP Sea LCL | $150–$260/CBM | 32–44 days | 1–12 CBM, mixed orders |
| DDP Sea FCL 20ft | $1,350–$2,380 to Valencia, Barcelona or Algeciras | 30–40 days | From about 13–15 CBM |
| DDP Sea FCL 40ft | $2,550–$3,880 | 32–42 days | Light, bulky cargo |
What the all-in price adds. Clearance, duty, 21% IVA and delivery. Three of those four scale with the declared value rather than weight, so a per-kilogram figure quoted without a value is an estimate.
Our Industry Insight: The most common error in China–Spain comparisons is ranking two different products — one forwarder’s all-in DDP rate set beside another’s port-to-port ocean freight. On this lane the ocean leg usually runs 15–20% of what the importer ends up paying. Before comparing, ask what each number contains.
What an All-In DDP Price to Spain Covers
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is the Incoterms 2020 term under which the seller — or the forwarder acting for it — carries the cargo through every stage including import duty and delivers it to the named place. For a buyer with no Spanish entity, no EORI and no broker, it turns four suppliers into one invoice. Scope: DDP shipping from China.
| Stage | Included in DDP? |
|---|---|
| Supplier pickup in China, export clearance | Yes |
| International freight — sea, air or rail | Yes |
| Spanish import clearance and the customs entry | Yes |
| Customs duty on the declared value | Yes |
| Import IVA at 21%, per the agreed terms | Stated in the quote |
| Final delivery, appointment where required, proof of delivery | Yes |
What a DDP quote excludes, unless it says otherwise:
- Customs inspection and storage if AEAT selects the consignment.
- Product compliance — CE marking with a Declaration of Conformity, Spain’s packaging and electrical registrations, and SOIVRE inspection.
- Cargo insurance, unless we arrange it against a declared value.
| Term | Freight Booked By | Duty and IVA Paid By | Entry Filed By | Your Risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FOB | You | You | You, through your own broker | Highest |
| DAP | Us | You | You — you need an EORI and a broker | Medium |
| DDP | Us | Us, per the agreed terms | Us | Lowest |
When DDP Is Not the Cheapest Option
If you already hold a Spanish EORI and work with an agente de aduanas, FOB or DAP keeps the margin a forwarder builds into an all-in price. The second case is tax rather than freight: when the entry is filed under the forwarder’s own customs structure, the import IVA may not be yours to deduct. We quote both structures on request.
DDP Rates from China to Spain: Sea, Air and Rail (Q4 2026)
Every figure below is freight only — port to port or airport to airport — published in early October 2026 and re-validated at booking.
Sea Freight to Spain: FCL and LCL
| Route | Transit | 20ft FCL | 40ft FCL | LCL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shanghai → Valencia | 26–35 days | $1,350–$2,150 | $2,550–$3,580 | $150–$220/CBM |
| Ningbo → Algeciras | 28–38 days | $1,420–$2,250 | $2,650–$3,720 | $160–$230/CBM |
| Shenzhen → Barcelona | 28–40 days | $1,480–$2,380 | $2,750–$3,880 | $170–$260/CBM |
A 20ft holds about 28–30 CBM usable and a 40ft about 55–58, so the 40ft rate runs 1.5–1.6 times the 20ft rate rather than double. Past 13–15 CBM a full box usually beats LCL. Most of our Spain volume books out of Zhejiang and Guangdong: options are on the sea freight from China page and in the Shipping from Ningbo guide.
Air Freight to Spain by Weight Break
| Route | Transit | 100 kg | 300 kg | 500 kg | 1,000 kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shanghai (PVG) → Madrid (MAD) | 4–7 days | $1,180–$1,560 | $2,480–$3,300 | $3,720–$4,950 | $6,900–$9,250 |
| Guangzhou (CAN) → Madrid (MAD) | 4–7 days | $1,200–$1,590 | $2,520–$3,360 | $3,780–$5,020 | $7,000–$9,400 |
| Shenzhen (SZX) → Barcelona (BCN) | 5–8 days | $1,220–$1,620 | $2,560–$3,420 | $3,840–$5,100 | $7,100–$9,550 |
Air bills the greater of actual and volumetric weight — length × width × height in centimeters divided by 6,000 — so a carton of 80 × 60 × 60 cm weighing 9 kg bills at 48 kg.
Rail to Madrid: The Middle Band
The China–Europe Railway Express runs from Yiwu, Chengdu, Chongqing and Xi’an through Kazakhstan and Poland, entering Spain at Irún, and reaches the Madrid terminals in 18–25 days door to door — between sea and air on both transit and cost. Space sells in weekly train slots, so a missed cut-off costs a full week.
How Long DDP Shipping from China to Spain Takes, Segment by Segment
One number hides four clocks. This is where the days sit on a Q4 2026 shipment.
| Mode | Pickup and Consolidation | Main Leg | Spanish Clearance | Final Delivery | Door to Door |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sea FCL | 2–4 days | 26–38 days | 1–3 days | 1–3 days, 2–4 to Andalusia or the islands | 30–40 days |
| Sea LCL | 4–7 days | 27–40 days | 1–4 days | 2–4 days | 32–44 days |
| Rail | 3–5 days | 18–25 days | 1–3 days | 1–3 days | 22–30 days |
| Air | 1–2 days | 1–2 days | 1–2 days | 1–3 days | 6–10 days |
| Express | Same day | 3–6 days | Included in transit | 1–2 days | 4–8 days |
The main leg is the unstable part. Services to the western Mediterranean sail on weekly strings, and the cut-off for a Shanghai or Ningbo booking usually falls five to seven days before departure; miss it and the cargo waits a week for the next vessel. If carriers route your vessel around the Cape of Good Hope instead of Suez, add 10–14 days at sea.
At the destination, the clock that costs money is free time: Valencia and Barcelona commonly grant five to seven days of free storage before demurrage and detention start at roughly $60–$200 per container per day. Inland delivery adds one to three days to Madrid, Zaragoza and the Basque Country, and two to four to Andalusia, Galicia and the Balearics.
Our Industry Insight: The gap between two shipments on the same vessel is almost never the sailing — it is the file. We see three to five days lost after arrival for invoice lines whose description does not match the TARIC code, for a bill of lading consignee that differs from the party named on the entry, and for wooden pallets without ISPM 15 marks. All three are fixed in China for free and at the port for money.
Duty, 21% IVA and the Spanish Landed Cost, Line by Line
The customs value is the CIF value — goods plus freight plus insurance. Duty runs at the MFN rate your TARIC code carries: 0–2.7% on much machinery and furniture, around 12% on apparel, footwear and ceramics. Import IVA at 21% then applies to the customs value plus duty.
| Charge | Q4 2026 position | Calculated on |
|---|---|---|
| Customs duty (arancel) | MFN by TARIC code; commonly 0–12%, machinery 0–2.7%, apparel around 12% | CIF value |
| Anti-dumping or countervailing duty | Applies where a measure covers your product and Chinese origin | Customs value, on top of duty |
| Import IVA | 21% standard; 10% and 4% on listed goods | CIF value plus duty plus charges to destination |
| Plastic packaging excise (IENP) | EUR 0.45 per kg of non-reusable plastic packaging | Packaging weight declared |
| Recargo de equivalencia | 5.2%, 1.4% or 0.5% for retailers in the special regime | Purchase value, non-deductible |
A 20ft container to Madrid, line by line. General cargo, FOB Ningbo at $8,500:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Goods value on the invoice | $8,500 |
| Ocean freight and pickup (1 × 20ft) | $1,920 |
| EU duty at 3% on the CIF value | $255 |
| Import IVA at 21% on $10,675 | $2,242 |
| Brokerage and delivery to Madrid | Included |
| Landed cost under DDP | $12,917 — 52% above the goods value |
| Same shipment excluding recoverable IVA | $10,675 — 26% above the goods value |
300 kg of electronics by DDP air to Barcelona. Goods $18,000, freight $2,890 at the 300 kg break:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Goods value on the invoice | $18,000 |
| Air freight, 300 kg chargeable (PVG–BCN) | $2,890 |
| Duty at 2% on the CIF value | $418 |
| Import IVA at 21% on $21,308 | $4,475 |
| Clearance and delivery | $520 |
| Landed cost under DDP | $26,303 — 46% above the goods value |
| Same shipment excluding recoverable IVA | $21,828 — 21% above the goods value |
A VAT-registered importer treats the 21% as a timing cost; everyone else pays it permanently. The freight cost calculator turns a weight, a CBM and a route into a first estimate.
Who Is the Importer of Record — and Does the 21% IVA Come Back?
Under DDP we settle the duty and the import IVA per the agreed terms, and on this lane we usually clear under our own customs structure. That does not remove the entry: a declaration exists, and a named importer of record is accountable for the classification, the declared value, the origin and the tax paid.
Since October 2025 the Spanish import declaration is filed as an H1 electronic message under the Union Customs Code rather than the old boxed DUA form — same content (TARIC code, customs value, origin, procedure), filed at the AEAT electronic office. Guides: sede.agenciatributaria.gob.es.
Where the entry is filed in your own name, import IVA is normally recoverable as input tax — a cash-flow item rather than a cost — provided the Spanish business is VAT-registered and holds the import document. Spain also allows deferral: importers in the REDEME (monthly refund register) enter the import VAT in the modelo 303 self-assessment instead of paying at the border, which on a container carrying a $2,200 IVA line is the difference between paying it once and funding it for weeks. Under DDP that arrangement sits with whoever files, so the question before booking is not how much IVA applies but whose name is on the declaration.
Real-Life Scenario: A seller with no Spanish entity shipped DDP into a Madrid 3PL for more than a year. When the company finally registered a Spanish VAT number, its accountant asked us to recover the import IVA already paid — around $1,800 per container across six shipments. We could not. The entries had been filed under our own customs structure, so the declaration named us as importer of record and the IVA was not the buyer’s to deduct. We re-quoted the lane as DAP with the entry in the buyer’s own EORI, which raised the freight line and lowered the landed cost. DDP buys certainty; what it costs you is the recovery.
Spanish Clearance Gates Before Loading: SOIVRE, CE, IENP and Anti-Dumping
Most avoidable Spanish delays are created in China, before the container is loaded: these decide whether the entry is released in one to three days or waits in the orange or red channel of AEAT’s risk selection.
| Item | Detail That Causes Delays |
|---|---|
| Commercial invoice | Description per line matching the TARIC code, unit values, Incoterm and currency; a mismatch with the packing list is the most common hold |
| Bill of lading or air waybill | The consignee must match the party named on the entry |
| EORI number | Mandatory for the EU importer, issued by AEAT free of charge; a Spanish operator’s number is built on its NIF |
| TARIC and HS codes | Sets duty, anti-dumping exposure and licensing; classification is decided in China, not at the port |
| CE marking and Declaration of Conformity | Required before market placement for regulated categories; the DoC is a supplier document, not a customs one |
| SOIVRE inspection | Spain’s foreign-trade inspection for listed consumer categories — toys, footwear, textiles, ceramics, electrical appliances — with a fee and one to three days of dwell where it applies |
| Plastic packaging (IENP) and producer registration | Ley 7/2022: EUR 0.45 per kg of non-reusable plastic packaging declared, plus registration as a producer of packaged goods |
| RAEE and battery registration | Electrical and electronic equipment, and batteries, need their own producer registration before sale in Spain |
| Wood packaging | ISPM 15 heat treatment marks — untreated wood is refused |
SOIVRE checks the consignment against Spanish import rules and is not the same as CE conformity, a product-level declaration the supplier owns. Anti-dumping is the line no freight quote shows you: EU measures cover many Chinese-origin product groups — e-bikes, solar glass and certain steel and aluminium products among them — and where one applies the rate sits on top of normal duty and can exceed the cost of moving the container, so check your TARIC code in the EU’s Access2Markets database before you book.
Which Gateway and Which Delivery Zone: Valencia, Barcelona, Algeciras and the Islands
Gateway choice here is an inland-distance decision more than a freight-rate one: the ocean spread between the three main ports is a few percent, while the road and rail difference runs into hundreds of dollars per container.
| Gateway | Sea Transit | Serves | What Changes the Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valencia | 26–35 days | Madrid, the center, eastern Spain | Spain’s largest container port for China trade; about 350 km to Madrid by road or rail |
| Barcelona | 28–40 days | Catalonia, eCommerce, the north-east | About 620 km to Madrid; strongest for regional distribution |
| Algeciras | 28–38 days | Andalusia, plus transshipment to Latin America and West Africa | A relay hub first: high sailing count, longest inland leg of the three |
Madrid is served by the dry ports at Coslada and Getafe, and Zaragoza’s PLAZA platform is the largest inland logistics area in southern Europe. The islands change the rules twice. The Canary Islands are inside the EU customs territory but outside the VAT territory, so imports clear with duty, IGIC replaces IVA at a general rate of 7%, and AIEM applies to listed goods at rates up to 15%. Cargo to Las Palmas or Santa Cruz de Tenerife adds roughly a week on a thinner schedule. Ceuta and Melilla sit outside the customs territory and apply their own IPIS instead of IVA, and neither regime is a cheaper route to the mainland.

FAQ: DDP Shipping from China to Spain
What does DDP shipping from China to Spain include?
Supplier pickup, export clearance, freight by sea, air or rail, Spanish import clearance and the customs entry, customs duty, import IVA per the agreed terms and final delivery. Excluded unless quoted: inspection and storage, demurrage, CE, IENP or RAEE compliance, SOIVRE fees and insurance.
How much does DDP shipping from China to Spain cost in Q4 2026?
Freight bands start around $3.70–$7.70 per kg by air, $150–$260 per CBM by sea LCL and $1,350 for a 20ft container to Valencia. Add duty, 21% IVA, clearance and delivery: an $8,500 container at 3% duty lands near $12,900, and $18,000 of electronics by air lands near $26,300.
How long does DDP shipping from China to Spain take?
Sea FCL runs 30–40 days door to door, LCL 32–44, rail 22–30, air 6–10 and express 4–8. Add 10–14 days if your vessel is routed around the Cape of Good Hope, and two to four days for Andalusia, Galicia or the islands.
Do I need an EORI number to import into Spain?
Yes, as importer of record — the entry cannot be filed in your name without one. Spanish operators register through AEAT and the number is built on the company’s NIF. Under DDP the forwarder clears under its own structure, which is why the IVA may not be yours to deduct.
Can I reclaim the 21% import IVA?
A VAT-registered Spanish business that is the importer of record normally recovers it as input tax, and REDEME-registered filers can defer it into the modelo 303 instead of paying at the border. Under DDP, agree in advance what document the shipment will produce.
Is there a EUR 150 exemption for imports into Spain?
No. Duty is due from the first euro and there is no duty-free allowance for commercial consignments; the old EUR 22 VAT exemption ended in July 2021. The EUR 150 line governs the declaration route and the VAT collection for distance sales, not the liability.
Can you deliver DDP to Amazon.es warehouses and private addresses?
Yes — Amazon.es fulfillment centers, business addresses, 3PLs and residential addresses. FBA cargo needs the labels, FNSKU and pallet specification, a booked appointment, and the Spanish packaging and RAEE registrations in place before sale.
Conclusion: The All-In Number Before You Book
DDP shipping from China to Spain is one figure on paper and four lines underneath it: freight, duty, IVA and delivery. Check which of the four a quote contains, the declared value the tax was calculated on, and whose name will appear on the customs entry before you assume the 21% is recoverable.
Send the product, the weight or CBM, the pickup city and the Spanish delivery address, and we will price the all-in figure with each line shown separately, as soon as possible.
